Weddings are definitely crazy and it will be the most stressful day in your life, but only if you let it. Here are some tips to help your big day go as smoothly as possible.

1) Give in to the chaos

There are some things you just can’t control and are out of your hand. On top of the fast pace nature of weddings, there may be things like accidents, tardiness, crazy relatives, and wacky weather to deal with. Expect the unexpected and don’t let the craziness of the day get in the way of what’s most important. Don’t get caught up in “perfection” and accept the fact that not everything will go as planned.

2) Kiss your wife or husband as much as you can

I remember during our wedding that every time I kissed my wife I would forget everything that was happening around me, and it reminded me of what was most important. Nowadays, bride and grooms are doing what’s called a “first look” before the ceremony. Not only are these great for pictures, but it also gives the couple some time alone before the actual craziness happens. I’ll talk more about this in another blog post, but bottom line, your day is not about your guests, it’s about you and your significant other. So give them a smooch every chance you get.

3) Delegate the day

There have been times where I’ve seen the bride and grooms try and handle everything themselves on the day of their wedding. That is a simple recipe for disaster, and with so many moving parts within a wedding day, it is virtually impossible for two people, let alone one, to handle everything. Your friends and family are there for you, so give them little jobs to help ensure the day runs smoothly.

4) Remember to eat

During our wedding, I remember that I hardly ate anything. As a matter of fact, I think I skipped breakfast and lunch too. By the time everyone got on the dance floor, I was so low on energy that I hardly danced at all. It’s a shock that I didn’t pass out while I was up at the alter.

5) Try not to stress and just enjoy the day

Let other people stress over the details and just have fun. It’s the job of the coordinator, wedding planner, dj, photographer, videographer, make up artist, hair stylist, maid of honor, best man, and many others to stress over the day for you. That’s why you chose these people to be in charge of the “big stuff” and they will also handle the “small stuff” too. I’m never just the photographer during any given wedding, and I try to help out in any other way possible to ensure that the bride and groom enjoy their big day.
